AUG Foundation has rolled out a major educational initiative by sponsoring and supervising 200 free Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) registrations for underprivileged students across Zamfara State, aiming to bridge the gap in access to higher education amid economic challenges.
Led by its Founder, Malam Abdulhafiz Umar Barau (Dan Isan Gusau / Magayakin Tsafe), the foundation selected beneficiaries from diverse communities in the state. The process was coordinated through six key Emirate Councils – Gusau, Bungudu, Maru, Tsafe, Dansadau, and Kwatarkwashi – to promote transparency, inclusivity, and fair distribution. This approach ensures that the support reaches grassroots levels without favoritism, as confirmed by recent reports on similar philanthropic efforts in the region.
Beyond financial aid, the foundation is actively overseeing the registration exercise to prevent any hitches, ensuring every selected student is properly documented and enrolled. This hands-on involvement underscores the organisation’s dedication to not just funding but also facilitating seamless access to opportunities.

During the registration event in Gusau, Comrade Abdul Bala Gusau, the State Coordinator representing the Founder, highlighted the programme’s role in alleviating economic pressures on vulnerable families. “This initiative is part of our broader educational support programme. We are ensuring that no qualified student in Zamfara is denied the opportunity to pursue tertiary education due to financial constraints,” he said.
He added that the collaboration with emirate structures was deliberate to foster statewide inclusion, rather than confining the benefits to specific areas. Outstanding performers in the JAMB exams could qualify for further scholarships under the foundation’s scheme, potentially covering tuition and other needs.
Beneficiaries and their representatives have hailed the gesture as a timely lifeline. They expressed deep appreciation, noting that it has not only eased financial burdens but also reignited hope and motivation among aspiring youths and their households in the face of Nigeria’s ongoing economic hardships.
The AUG Foundation, known for its multifaceted humanitarian work, continues to make strides in education, healthcare, food security, and direct aid for the needy across Zamfara. Recent activities include supporting nursing students with registration fees and providing scholarships for university pursuits, reflecting a consistent pattern of youth empowerment and community development.
Under Malam Abdulhafiz Umar Barau’s guidance, the foundation reaffirmed its pledge to people-oriented initiatives, emphasising youth empowerment and inclusive service delivery throughout the state. NaijaChoice News gathered that this JAMB sponsorship aligns with broader national trends, where philanthropists and organisations are stepping in to support free exam registrations in states like Kaduna, Anambra, and Abia, though AUG’s focus remains firmly on Zamfara’s indigent population.
Stakeholders in Zamfara have commended the effort, with calls for more private sector involvement in education to complement government programmes. As the registration window progresses, the foundation urges eligible students to engage through the designated councils for maximum impact.
