No fewer than 1,000 police officers in Lagos State have benefited from the Sanwo-Olu Police Care Initiative, a medical outreach programme designed to improve the health and welfare of security personnel.

The initiative commenced at the Police Headquarters in Ikeja, where officers received free eye screening, prescription glasses, and general medical checks as part of the intervention.

The programme is fully funded by the Lagos State Government and forms part of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s broader efforts to strengthen institutions responsible for protecting lives and property.

Speaking after the outreach, the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Transportation and Logistics, Hassan Adekoya, explained that the decision to include police officers followed a request by the Nigeria Police Force, in recognition of the critical role officers play in maintaining law and order.

According to him, the Police Care Initiative builds on the success of the Drivers’ Care Programme recently launched at Lillypond Terminal in Apapa and later extended to Eleko Junction, Obalende, and Iyana-Iba.

The Drivers’ Care Programme targets about 10,000 professional drivers across the state, offering free eye screening, prescription glasses, drug testing, sensitisation, and free Lagos State Drivers’ Institute cards.

Adekoya noted that extending the initiative to police personnel demonstrates the government’s appreciation of security officers and their contributions to public safety.

He added that ensuring officers are medically fit improves operational efficiency and strengthens the overall security framework within the state.
