A viral video making the rounds on social media has left Nigerians in stitches and sparked heated debates, as an unidentified man boldly declared that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu should be allowed to spend sixteen years in office.

In the clip, which has now been shared thousands of times on platforms like Instagram, X (formerly Twitter), Facebook, and even Nairaland, the man, speaking with serious conviction, said:

“We want President Tinubu to serve for sixteen years in office. Nigerian youths have benefited more under his regime than ever before in the history of Africa.”

The statement, delivered in a mix of English and heavy Pidgin, was quickly captioned by many sharers with the now-famous line: “Sey wahala no con plenty like this?” — a sarcastic Yoruba-Pidgin expression meaning “As if the problems haven’t already become too much!”

The video has since exploded, with netizens reacting in typical Naija fashion — some laughing, others shaking their heads, and a few actually agreeing (or pretending to).

Sarcasm or Serious Call for Continuity?

Many online users believe the man was being heavily sarcastic, using exaggerated praise to mock the current economic hardships, rising cost of living, and the pains of the fuel subsidy removal and naira float policies.

One Instagram user under Tunde Ednut’s post wrote: “SARCASM AT ITS BEST!!! 😂😂 Only Nigerians fit do this one.”

But others are taking it differently. Supporters of the president see it as a genuine vote of confidence in the ongoing reforms.

As earlier reported by NaijaChoice News, the Tinubu administration’s economic reset, though painful in the short term, has been defended by APC chieftains as the necessary “bitter pill” needed to reposition Nigeria for long-term prosperity.

Context: Tinubu’s First Term and the 2027 Factor

President Tinubu, who was sworn in on May 29, 2023, is currently serving his first four-year term. The Nigerian Constitution currently limits a president to a maximum of eight years (two terms). However, the man’s call for sixteen years has triggered fresh conversations about possible constitutional reviews or even “project continuity” ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Governors and APC stakeholders have repeatedly assured that Tinubu will complete his eight years, with some even predicting he will be re-elected overwhelmingly in 2027.

But in the streets, the mood remains mixed. While some youths hail the student loan scheme, the renewed hope agenda, and infrastructure projects, many others are still battling with inflation that has made garri and beans look like luxury items.

Reactions Pour In

The video has drawn reactions from all corners:

  • @ChuksEricE on X: “Make Tinubu Serve 16 Years in Office – ‘Youths Never Benefited Like This in Africa History’ 😭🔥”
  • A Nairaland thread on the story already has over 200 comments, with some users asking, “Na joke or na real?”
  • Even popular pages like MeatPie TV and Feet2meeNews jumped on it, reposting with laughing emojis.

One political commentator told NaijaChoice News:

“This is classic Nigerian humour. When things are hard, we turn pain into comedy. But underneath the laughter, there is a serious message about how people are feeling.”

What Next?

As the video continues to trend, the big question on everyone’s lips is: Is this man speaking for a silent majority, or is he just a comedian dropping the joke of the year?

Only time — and perhaps the 2027 elections — will tell.
