ADC Rivers State Disowns Impostor Chairman in Ikwerre LGA, Raises Alarm Over Alleged Wike-Led Infiltration

Port Harcourt, Rivers State – In a dramatic twist amid the heated political landscape of Rivers State, the African Democratic Congress (ADC) has publicly distanced itself from Mr. Igwe Sunday Ohahuru, who has been parading himself as the party’s Chairman in Ikwerre Local Government Area (LGA).

The party described his recent press statement as false and misleading, labeling him an impostor with no affiliation to the ADC.

In an official statement signed by Chief Leader Sampson, the State Chairman of ADC Rivers Chapter, the party clarified that “Mr. Igwe Sunday Ohahuru is not a member of the African Democratic Congress and does not hold any office or authority to speak for or on behalf of the party at any level.”

This move comes as the ADC accuses external political forces of attempting to infiltrate and destabilize its structures in Ikwerre LGA and across the state.

The ADC emphasized that the legitimate Chairman of the party in Ikwerre LGA is Mr. Temple Chinedu Egwenike, whose leadership is constitutionally recognized and fully endorsed by the party’s hierarchy. “This is part of a broader scheme by political jobbers to sow confusion and undermine our party’s unity,” the statement read, pointing fingers at alleged infiltrators linked to prominent figures in the state’s political arena.

NaijaChoice News investigations reveal that the controversy may be tied to deeper tensions involving the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike. The ADC has called on President Bola Tinubu to intervene and call Wike to order, alleging plots to create parallel structures within the party.

Specifically, the party claims that Wike’s allies, including Ikwerre LGA Chairman Samuel Nwanosike and Charles Wobodo, are orchestrating efforts to impose unauthorized executives and encourage ward councilors to assume unlawful leadership roles in the ADC.

This development echoes ongoing political rivalries in Rivers State, where factional battles have intensified ahead of the 2027 elections. Broader reports indicate strains within the ADC nationally, including zoning disputes and warnings from figures like former Minister Rotimi Amaechi against northern presidential candidates, as the party positions itself for progressive governance.

The ADC also sounded a stern warning against the potential misuse of the judiciary, citing credible intelligence about plans to secure questionable court orders to legitimize these irregular actions. “We urge the judiciary to uphold impartiality and not allow itself to be dragged into partisan schemes that could destabilize party affairs,” Chief Sampson stated.

Furthermore, the party has appealed to security agencies, such as the Department of State Services (DSS) and the Nigeria Police Force, to monitor the situation closely and prevent any escalation that could lead to a breakdown of law and order.

While reaffirming its dedication to peaceful democratic processes, the ADC encouraged its members and supporters to stay vigilant, remain law-abiding, and actively engage in the ongoing Continuous Voter Registration exercise. As Rivers State’s political temperature rises, the ADC insists it remains committed to fortifying its presence across all 23 LGAs, positioning itself as a viable alternative for good governance amid the state’s turbulent politics.
