Ogun State Governor Prince Adédàpọ̀ Olúseun Abíọ́dún has declared Tuesday 03 February 2026 as a public holiday in the state to mark the 50th anniversary of the creation of the state.
This was announced via a statement issued Monday 02 February 2026 by the Secretary to the State Government Mr. Tòkunbọ̀ Tàlàbí.
According to the statement, the holiday is to enable residents fully participate in activities scheduled for the state’s Golden Jubilee celebration.
Ogun State was created on Tuesday 03 February 1976 by the then Nigerian military head of state, General Murtala Ramat Mohammed.
It was carved out of the old Western State of Nigeria and named after the Ogun River that runs north to south across the state.
